PD (Pupil Distance) PD is required so that the center of the lens is in line with the center of your eye which will give you optimum vision in your prescription glasses.
PD is frequently not a part of your prescription, but is measured when you are fitted for glasses. The Optician or OD who prepared your last glasses will have the PD recorded in their records. They can provide you the PD. It will either be a single number, 2 numbers - one for each eye - or if you wear bifocals or progressives, 2 numbers for each eye - near and far PD - for each eye. If you are inable to obtain your PD, directions for measuring follow below.

P.D. Measurement

Most adult PD’s are between 60-65mm the average being 63mm.
Take a mm. rule and place it over the bridge of your nose with the 0 over the center of one pupil in one eye and take the measurement to the center of the pupil in the other eye, If your eyes are very dark and the pupil cannot be seen clearly you can measure from the inner edge of the iris in one eye to the outer edge of the iris in the other eye (see diagram above). If you are unsure of the measurement, have your eye care professional take the measurement. |
